Born in Poland he studied there before moving to France where he worked as an artist in the 1930s. During World War II he moved to Scotland with the Polish Army before settling in North London in the 1940s.

Ruszkowski exhibited widely, having his first one man show at Roland, Browse and Delbanco in 1948.
